I found it swimming in the pool and I helped to bring it to a dry part at a stone. It came to thank me at my hand.. Smile and flew away.
It is a big Tachinid of about 10mm.
Who knows the name...?

Hello Chris,

For Carcelia are many types... is it not possible to have an indication for this one...? Or which one is the common one..?

Regards,
Hedy

Could be lucorum ... doesn't look like bombylans ... but there are other alternatives - maybe Theo can say more? Smile

So, this picture helped for the contrary...Smile
I thought that I had so many photo's instead of the usual one shot... It's a pity as there are not many kinds in our Dutch register system.
Well, at least we tried and I thank Chris and you for your help!!

Hedy

Hedy, I think Theo means that it very probably is C. iliaca. There's a difference between 'I have little doubt' and 'I have a little doubt' Smile

This one is quite high on my wanted list... As it happens there is an outbreak of Thaumatopoea in the region (they needed to close down some playfields etc.). So I thought I got Phorocera grandis (also a parasitoid of Thaumatopoea) today, but no: Parasetigena silvestris 1m1f. Close call... A new species for me anyways!

Yes, if I got Parasetigena silvestris here then I'd be happy Grin We have very few Thaumatopoea here though so ...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
