14-oct, about 900m high in a Hedera next to a river Cantabria (meadows zone) it was big, sorry about the size it was bigger than some Eristalis (but smaller than others)...

Me too. Note the pollen. In an apple orchard study here in Ireland Diptera were shown to be very important pollinators.Last year when the bee populations were very lowSad in the Spring the fruit set (apple formation) was as usualPfftPfft, proving the results.
