Hello,

i am writing you from germany so please dont look at misspelling and grammar:-)

i found this fly on my macrotrip yesterday morning.

cdn.fotocommunity.com/images/Insekten/Fliegen-Muecken-Schnaken/evil-gadfly-a24439357.jpg

Location are a wetland-biotop, approx in the middle between Hannover and Paderborn. I took the photo in the evening at 7.p.m.

In another german forum somebody gave me the note, that it could be a soldierfly (Odontomyia argentata).

what is you opinion?

Thanks for you time.

cheers Mathias

Looks like Odontomyia argentata of the Stratiomyidae.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
