My wife and I found a small songbird egg (broken) and took it home. Later (indoors) I noticed this fly on it, apparently feeding on the egg that had splashed onto the egg shell.

21 June 2010, West Virginia USA, forest and meadow nearby, elevation 330 meters. I believe this fly measured 5 mm.

Update: Phoridae, thank-you Xylo!
