G. maculata female, I think, but can i be sure it's not G. minor?

4th October 2010 feeding on Ivy flowers, Wiltshire UK, c 8mm

Nick, it depends on piont of view:
According the keys given by Gregor et al. (2002) or D'Assis Fonseca (1968) it is rather female of minor (=picta in Fonseca).
According Vikhrev (2011, in press, should be published Jan 2011, may be found here: http://www.biosoil.ru/fee/)
minor is synonym of maculata.
So my opinion is yes, it is G. maculata

OK, many thanks again. G. maculata will do for me. I hope your paper is well received and that it resolves the taxonomic confusion. I know some prefer to split than to lump, so realise others may take a different view!

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
