Hi, I had this marked as 5mm, I'm not sure about that. Taken on 9th February 2010 inside, near Lincoln UK. The thorax doesn't look like Scaptomyza I see in the gallery, could it be Drosophila sp.? 3 pics Janet blowave attached the following image: [140.85Kb] Edited by blowave on 26-11-2010 14:43 http://cubits.org... |

Drosophila, indeed. might be a species of the virilis/littoralis group if it is a big one.

I do remember mentally noting the size before I took it outside so I feel 5mm is correct, at that time of year there was little else about to confuse my memory! I have searched for more information on these, apart from a couple of previous posts here where fuscated cross veins was mentioned I found some interesting stuff so will link them here. http://cc.oulu.fi.../hints.htm My fly doesn't have fuscated cross veins, would it more likely be in the D. littoralis group? The pdf gives a lot of history on that subject! http://www.dgrc.k...070131.pdf http://cubits.org... |
