Hi everybody,
I found this Asilidae on a edge of a forest near Göttingen (Germany, Lower Saxony, Kerstlingeröder Feld, ~350m 51.526012°,10.002986°)
Is my assumption right with Choerades and then maybe C. femorata?
Thanks for your efford, Christian

Thanks again Danny for your help!
What would be necessary to see for separating these two? I don't have another pic of this one, but if I meet them again, I could then try to make it better Wink
Cheers, Christian

Hi Christian,

Asilids should be phtographed in most cases from lateral view. In lateral view there is normally the highest chance for an ID. In case of the Choerades marginata-group the antennae and the length of its segments are of importance as well as the shape of the head in lateral view, the colour of the adpressed facial hairs, the colour and arrangement of the abdominal hairs and the shape of the back femora.

Greetings, Danny

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
