I have pics showing other angles, and in none of those are the strong row of bristles apparent.

That is very unusual, as they usually do show on X. segnis from most angles, and I could not see any through the lens while taking pics which again is unusual as I always see them on X. segnis!

I can see a couple of longish bristles towards the posterior side lower down the femur, I lightened the pic more and apart from those I can only see the occasional very small bristle.

Opinions anyone?

That can be the case Andre, and I have had a very occasional photo of X. segnis which doesn't show the spines but not often,

I have 6 different angles of this one and not one of them shows the spines as you would expect.

Here's a part of another shot I cropped off and lightened.. you would expect to see spines on the right side femur if they were not so visible from a front angle.
