No, from the dusting pattern on the tergites, I'd say this is Ochthera manicata. Not absolutely certain because there is another similar species - O.palaearctica - which occurs in Denmark and France, so could be found in Belgium, and I have not seen material, so don't know how the pattern compares.

Thanks Tony, I guess I urgently need a decent checklist for Belgian diptera because I wasn't aware of the other species. Does anybody know where to get: Grootaert, P. Bruyn, L. de & Meyer, M. de (eds), 1992. Catalogue of the diptera of Belgium - Studiedocumenten van het K.B.I.N. 70:1-338 ???? Edited by Don Micro on 23-09-2010 20:25 Kim Windmolders |

I have to admit that I was already wondering if Ochthera manicata is actually recorded from Belgium yet. It's not mentioned from Belgium on Fauna Europaea, but that doesn't mean it has not been recorded yet. I will check the checklist tonight. Jan Willem van Zuijlen |

On the checklist of Belgium (1992) only Ochthera mantis is mentioned.
