Hi, this should be a male and female of Lathyrophthalmus aeneus syn. Eristalinus aeneus, right ? I've read that this species is related to the coast, thats why I'am not 100% sure. Can anyone please teach me on how to find the right established scientific name when there is a synonym ? Taking this species as example: Is it Lathyrophthalmus aeneus Syn. Eristalinus aeneus or Eristalinus aeneus Syn. Lathyrophthalmus aeneus ? Location: Munich, Germany very close to the river Isar. (alpine upland) Size: aprox 9mm The male ... <click image to enlarge> <click image to enlarge> <click image to enlarge> The female ... <click image to enlarge> <click image to enlarge> Best wishes Richard |

Hi, Where did you find this name Lathyrophthalmus. No trace in Fauna europaea. This is to be found in zipcodezoo.com http://zipcodezoo...s_astrops/, but I don't know in which region of the world. Pierre Duhem |

I have a book of 2002 (Kurt Kormann "Schwebfliegen und Blasenkopffliegen Mitteleuropas" ) where this species is described as Lathyrophthalmus aeneus (SCOPOLI, 1763)

Now correctly there is Eristalinus Rondani, 1857 as genus, Lathyrophthalmus Mik, 1897 as subgenus of Eristalinus, for E. aeneus for example. So, the correct name would be Eristalinus (Lathyropthalmus) aeneus!

Thank you. A few days ago I had a similar discussion about the synonym of the species Leucozona glaucia. How about the synonym of Leucozona glaucia Syn.: Ischyrosyrphus glaucius ? |
