Hi, could anyone help identify this insect please, the nearest I've found in the gallery is Syrphidea (Syritta pipiens).
I can't see the wing well enought o see if there is a vena spuria but the similarities to Syritta pipiens lead me in that direection
Thanks everyone
Nick

Looks like Syritta pipiens to me Smile It's an incredibly common hoverfly.

I guessed that from the number of photos in the gallery (do you have a cap on the number in the gallery? Is there any merit in submitting others views/angles?)
I really must start searching from p 27 and work forwards, it would save me ages!
Thanks Chris

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
