Moscow region, 31 aug.
I didn't collect this large (at least 5mm or more) fly.
Upper part of face looks gren but not shining. I think it is female of another that H. bipunctatus species.
Help, please, if possible.

This 2 rows of white stripes on mesotonum, is it charactered for H. borealis?

Not really. It is present in most darker Hydrophorus. What is characteristic then you may ask? Let's see:

* Haltere partially darkened (not all-yellow or all-black)
* Lower face brown, upper face green but not glossy
* Spots on wing
* Hairs on fore coxa pale yellow
* Legs with short hair (the long-haired species are mostly arctic so finding one in Moskow is unlikely)
