Eyes bare and unbanded, broad frons, oval median callus suggests Tabanus cordiger?
Again, this species is not listed either on Fauna Europaea or Fauna Italia (for the whole of Italy despite Fauna Italia's 22 Tabanus sp. !)

cordiger has been listed by Chvala et al as early as 1972 and I have seen other specimens from Italy (yet unpublished, wait half a year for the details !).
I have just received the very sad news that Peter Chandler has died after a fall at home yesterday. I have no other details at the moment. We shall miss him terribly.
Anyone have scans of the Genus Semaranga in:

Dr Michael von Tschirnhaus, a leading expert on Chloropidae and Agromyzidae, died on 16 September 2025 at the age of 86. He will be greatly missed by the international community. R.I.P.
