yesterday I photographed in Germany, Saxony this tabanid. For me Tabanus tergestinus from gallery looks similar. Does the insect belong to this species or to another one? Unfortunately, the face is in shadow.

I have just received the very sad news that Peter Chandler has died after a fall at home yesterday. I have no other details at the moment. We shall miss him terribly.
