Hi

Saw this one in Serra da Estrela - Manteigas at 1100 m altitud. Medium size (about 8 mm I think).

2010.VI.29 - the same day I spotted Playtpygus sp. nov.

Allophorocera perhaps? Really not sure - it needs to be keyed.

Basal Humeral bristles are not in a triangle, so can't be Allophorocera. More like Erycia

Ahh, in my head I had either Erycia or Allophorocera ... I just don't see many of them here to "play" with Smile

It has not humeral bristles in a 'strong' triangle..
And it seems to have no shadow fold in m vein... no Exorista (?)...

We wrote at the same time, Theo, but you gave the right way.

Known for Portugal are:
E. festinans (Meigen, 1824)
E. furibunda (Zetterstedt, 1844)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
