Hi, Recently I met this Scathophaga - I know ID is difficult. However, it is no S. stercoraria, as the antennae are yellow and the arista seems to be bare. Furthermore, there are anterodorsal bristles on the hind femur (as far as I understand the bristle terminology). So are there any experts that could supply a possible name? Many thanks, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [175.77Kb] |

S.furcata I would reckon. Stephane might want to confirm or otherwise. Roger |

Many thanks, Roger! I compared all the threads concerning S. furcata and am quite convinced. Scathophagas are such impressives flies, they absolutely deserve a species name . Regards, Sundew |

The lack of ad on hind femur is only a character of the male S. suilla, not of the female. Here the arista is bare, the crossveins are infuscated, there is a dark mark on fore femur, 2 ad on mid tibia, all is OK for S. furcata. Stephane. |
