found UK, today, on spider

length 2.2mm

Yea, it should be a Phyllomyza. Havent seen a species with spotted palpi in Finland.

It does look very like the picture of Desmometopa varipalpis on 'Milichiidae Online'.

Yes, this is Desmometopa varipalpis, could be the first record for the UK. I think the species has been distributed around Europe in the last years through commerce, because it develops in rotten fruits and vegetables.
