Hi!

These 7-8 mm Tachinidae were numerous at the forest border today (northwest Germany, 14 °C, sunny). At least I believe, they were all from the same species...

Hebia flavipes. These were numerous also in Northern France in early May some years back. I haven't seen any here in Finland...

Hebia flavipes has the eyes bare, so my suggestion would be Phryno vetula, another Goniini / Eryciini

Thanks, Theo! The eyes were indeed very hairy.

Jürgen

Yes of course...Angry that was the species I was actually thinking of but somehow I always mix the two by names (yellow legs)... Also I haven't seen either in Finland so they are not the most familiar species, albeit easily recognizable...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
