It could be it, and it would be very interesting. If arista is almost bare, 4 post dc, acr rows distinct, short prealar and no Thricops setulae on post. inner edge of hind coxa, then I think it is it. I have not yet found any Lophosceles.

Thanks Stephane, Yes that's the species then. Lophosceles are apparently common in British woodlands, so I'll look out for more specimens this year.

This seems quite a rare one in Finland nowadays. I've collected only a single specimen in the wake of the beginning of my "career" back in 2001 (I remember it was a very cold May day) and I guess not many other modern Finnish dipterists have recorded it. |
