Dear colleagues,

In representation of the www.biodiversidad... comunity (BV) I would like to invite experts from this forum to participate of the Diptera data we are compiling in BV.
At present we do not have any experts assigned to the following Diptera families:
- Tachinidae
- Muscidae
- Calliphoridae
- Sarcophagidae
- Anthomyiidae
- Dolichopodidae
Experts collaborating with BV can use the information in BV for their personal and scientific purposes. At present BV has more than 150.000 photos of Iberian biodiversity. There are nearly 7000 photos of unidentified Diptera and another several thousand photos of Diptera identified only to family or genus level.
We would greatly appreciate any form of collaboration. Although, the main language used in BV is Spanish, feel free to communicate in English.
For further information please contact me:

Guillermo Booth Rea,
email: gbooth at ugr.es

Cheers,

Guillermo

EDIT; Awfully sorry chaps, falling back into the old native tongue there. What one meant to say was, " Which part of that didn't you understand Marc ? It seemed perfectly clear to me ".

Hi Marc,

Our main aim was to find experts in the groups I listed who want to participate in BV as administrators of these groups. The experts are suposed to help in the identification of the photographed specimens, if possible, and transfer the identified photos to the definitive taxonomic bank archives. The experts can use all the information about their assigned families for scientific purposes.
We also would appreciate any other type of participation in BV.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

Cheers,

Guillermo

Estimado Guillermo,

No desculpeme nada, caro Roger, para no ser capaz entender otra lingua que inglés como usted.

Sorry, Roger, but, please, try to understand that I like other languages (than Dutch) so much and that I do not have sufficient exercise to practise them, that I take any opportunity to use them.

Guillermo, incluame, por favor, in su lista de especialistas taxonomicos, principalmente para la familia de moscas de largas patas, Dolichopodidae.
[Guillermo (I guess that does not need any translation, does it?], please, include me in your list of taxonomic experts, in particular for the family of Dolichopodidae; that should not be too hard to translate, should it?]

A su servicio [At your service]
Con saludos cordlales [With warm regards]
Marc

No need to apologise to me Marc. I was merely reiterating what Paul said the last time you needlessly spoke in a language other than English, which is the chosen language of this site. Probably should have left it for Paul to do himself.

Regards Roger

Thanks a lot Marc,

I will contact Paqui Mars who organizes the Diptera section of Insectarium Virtual to see if we can give you administrative access to the Dolichopodidae files. I will be back to you soon.

Cheers,

Guillermo

I'd be happy to add some Genera names to some of the tachinids ... I am not an expert in your area but I have seen some photos that I could comment on confidently Smile

Hi Chris,

We would be very happy if you got your hands on the Tachinidae files as far as you can go.
If you register in Insectarium Virtual I will also ask Jordi Clavel to give you administrative capacities in those files.

Thanks a lot,

Guillermo

Well this is excellent. Suddenly we have several collaboration offers. Please register in Insectarium Virtual (IV) and once I have your user names in IV I will contact Paqui Mars and Jordi Clavel so that they give you administrative capacities in your respective specialities.
Thanks a lot,

Guillermo

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
