The erect apical scutellar bristles and bare eyes indicate Lydella.
Females of Lydella are difficult to separate.
The arista is thickened up to halfway (max), so it is not grisescens. Could be either stabulans or thompsoni.

Any indication of the locality you found it ?

Regarding the locality, it's a wet meadow at the edge of mixed forest, with blooming umbellifers, Lysimachia, etc., and a lot of Carex cf. vesicaria and broad-leaved grasses.

I checked my keys and it is a female Lydella thompsoni.
This agrees very well with the biotope presented:
hosts of thompsoni are reedboring Noctuidae like Nonagria.
So, a wetland species.

Thanks

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
