At first glance, I would say Anthomyiidae.

Katepisternals almost the same with the hairs along, prealar seems very fine and hairlike, one long pd on t3, wings in a triangular shape and large crossvein straight and fore tibia without a long ad around middle..... I would say a Calythea nigricans (only two species known in Europe...C.nigricans / pratincola) Joke van Erkelens Edited by javanerkelens on 31-12-2009 10:45 |

Wow that's great Joke, no pics in the gallery, and for the first time I have seen an Anthomyiid with such colourful wings . If this is for sure I will add it to the Gallery, can it be confirmed definitely? I can crop closer any part if needed. We do have both species in the UK. Thanks! |

I'm no expert, just a amateur student who happends to like Anthomyiidae a lot!! So it is a problem to say for sure...it is! When the r4+5 is towards M1 line in the wing and lower calypter is larger then lower one......than i am almost sure! And unfortunaly we can't see it, but maybe you have another photo.. Nice fly indeed ! Joke |

I only have the two photos, but have cropped the end part off both in hope. Still not clear the part you need to see, but this was on the ground so I was lucky to get these. I have a lot of Anthomyiids, so if you like them you might get plenty of practice. I have one with an orange abdomen and brown palpi! blowave attached the following image: [110.81Kb] |

I have already given it that name, sounds nearly positive. A Happy New year to you too! More nice flies in the pipe line Edited by blowave on 31-12-2009 18:32 |

I wonder if someone (namely Michael Ackland) could confirm this as Calythea nigricans. It would make a good addition to the Gallery. |
