Hello,

this ~9mm sciomyzidae is from october in Japan, from a small wood in the prefecture Shiga, near Kyoto. If I look in the gallery, the genus Sepodon is rather similar, and then only one species, Sepodon aenescens is possible. But is the genus correct? Or are there other genera which are possible here?

Thanks,
Michael

I agree with S. aenescens. This was the only S. sp that I saw in Japan, and it was rather common around paddies.

Hello Gabor,

thank you very much for your confirmation. I was rather sure too.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
