Hi All In a previous posting this fly was thought to be Linnaemy spp possibly vulpina.It was found this September on heathland in North West England.I have uploaded a second image showing its femur,hopfully this may clinch it. Cheers Harry wirralbirder attached the following image: [52.2Kb] |

Yes, Linnaemya vulpina is a heathland species with densely-hairy eyes, protruding mouth edge and orange femurs.
