Is this another anonymous lauxaniid? Is there particular angle which gives more hope of an ID, or are they just impossible from photos?

Lancashire UK Oct 24, I think about 6mm, but wil check if needed.

Hi Stephen,
Lyciella sp., usually I miss colour of palpi, the other marks are dorsocentral and acrostichal seta (dorsal view), colour spots on abdomen, sternopleural seta (lateral view), colour of antena, shadows and spots on wings, sometimes thorns on fore legs and so on.

Thanks Katka, that's a brilliant answer! Now I must try to remember in the field.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
