July 19, 2006.
I was attacked by the swarms of these critters at the edge of pine wood around 7 p.m. while shooting Drosophila on watermelon.
Size around 1.5mm. These are my best results so far.
P.S. And they bite REALLY bad.

It is a female Culicoides, possibly C. stigma using Remm's key in Bei-Benko, but this fly would be best named by an expert. My experience of Culicoides is usually wishing I had a hat!Grin

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol
