Hello, is it possible to determine the species? The photos of the two flies from Mallorca (S'Albufera) were taken in September. The first fly looks for me like a Herina sp.and the second one more like Ceroxys urticae, but no output from FaunaEu for genus Ceroxys and Balearic Islands. Thank you for help. Congratulations! It is indeed the first find of C. urticae L. from the Baleares. My spouse, Dr. Elena Kameneva, who is the author of the FaEu DB, confirms this ID. Have you collected this specimen? It would be fine to publish a short note with this record.

Sorry but not first for Balaerics, see http://taib.fsd.n...ep2006.pdf however, not sure if published in journal, most records haven't, the Mallorca Diptera list is now very much greater than that in Fauna Europaea for example. |

One big problem with the checklists of Fauna Europaea is, that it does not refer to published data! Which is a great omission, to my opinion. |

Andre ! you are absolutely right My last update on Heleomyzidae and related families was made in 2004 when FauEu has been started ! Presently I was again invited to make an update but I am not a rich men (I am the father of a family with two growing daughters and a growing half year old black cat . A small but any financial support is important to me (i.e. it could be a short visit (3-4 days) in Maastricht Museum :-) ). Where are the money from European Framework Programmes ???

I have no clue about all that. It is completely unclear to me how it works 'up there'. |

Valery, thank you for confirmation of C. urticae. My hobby is taking photos. So, I did not collect this specimen. If useful, I can send the picture proof and the details of find. Just a moment it was nice to read that it is the first find of C. urticae from Balearic Islands. I am not familiar with publication practice in entomology, but I think with the knowledge of research report the short note becomes unnecessary. Fauna Europaea is a great and useful project. It would be a pity if FaEu would die due to lack of continuous support. Marion |
