Hi,
This male Asilid sat on our housewall in June, 2008. I dimly remember that the tuft of red hairs below the genital was decisive for Eutolmus rufibarbis. Is that correct, or are there other species to be excluded?
Thanks for help, Sundew

Hi,

yes, you are right, this is a male Eutolmus rufibarbis. The "golden" tuft of hairs on the quite elongate and slim tab at the posterior margin of sternite 8 is quite characteristic for Eutolmus rufibarbis (when you are taking into account the German species only). Some Machimus species have light long hairs on a similar tab, too. But the tap of German Machimus species is much shorter and therefore broader.

Johannisthal?

Greetings, Danny
