Hello,

Let's see if there are some Bombyliidae specialist ! Grin

This one is from Macon (Burgundy, France).

arthropa.free.fr/photos/ATH05-04-02-020.jpg arthropa.free.fr/photos/ATH05-04-02-018.jpg
Wingspan 20 mm - 2nd April 2005

It looks like Bombylius major to me, but there are probably some other species I don't know which may look that way ?

Is it possible to determine Bombylius species from photos ?

Thanks !

Is indeed a Bombylius major. There are not too many Bombylius with a dark front wing margin and clear wings beyond. In this case the dark front margin is entire (end part is not disconnected), pointing to major.

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
