I seldom shoot hover flies, but this one was rather interesting for me. Size 8-9mm I believe. It was flying low among blocks of a cut down aspen tree lying in water, with a rather high-pitch buzz and sometimes touching the water's surface (laying eggs maybe?). Permitted me to take just one picture, though.

I think that it is a female of Eristalinus sepulchralis. Best ishes, Amalia |
