Hello, I've recently bought a binoculair specifically for ID-ing spiders, but I've also made some photo's of small diptera with it. I'm still trying things with extra light and stuff so the results are not yet what I've wished for. These are some pictures of a Dolichopodidae I've caught in July 25th this year. Is a full ID possible? Thank you very much. Best regards, Iolaire |

Dear, As my friend Gordon announced, I'll provide you with an identification, but then you should check one more character (as it is a female, this renders the identification process slightly more difficult). If the face is bare i.e. without small setae, then you are dealing with one of the most common species in Europe: Dolichopus plumipes. If the face is pubescent (which is not impossible, but very unlikely) then you might be the proud collector of the first specimen of Dolichopus polleti in the Netherlands. This is your call now. But, please, let me know what your conclusion is, ok? Cheers, Marc Marc Pollet (marc.pollet@inbo.be) |
