Found this little 3-4mm fly looking a bit worn sitting on the greenhouse window...don't think I've had one like this before..ID'able? Only these two shots.

EDIT; Added Coenosia to heading.

Thanks Stephen R and Stephane L,
I thought it had the look of a Coenosia.
I have 6 of those on my Checklist to start with Frown.
C. intermedia, means, mollicula, perpusilla, pumila and tigrina, plus any that might not have been recorded.

Regards Roger.

Coenosia pumila was in my thoughts, but it is diffcult to identify with certitude most of the Coenosia without having specimen in hand.

Hi Stephane
It does compare well with Jarif's one in the Gallery.
At least 3 of the others I listed can be discounted going by the photo's in the Gallery.
Worth a cf.pumila in my files I think.

Regards Roger

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
