Again: Muscidae? Anthomyiidae? (14.08.09) --> cf. Piezura pardalina (Fanniidae)?

Hi!

At least I am sure, that it's no Fanniid this time... Wink Only about 3.5 mm, on leaf in forest (northwest Germany) in mid August.

Jürgen, sorry, but it is a Fanniidae for me. It could even be Piezura pardalina, but I'm not sure.
Stephane.

Thanks, that's a surprise! Never saw a Fanniid like this...
Best regards,
Jürgen

Why not a male Fannia lustrator?

I don't think Lars. Fannia lustrator is a rather big species (6-9 mm), its scutellum is not yellow apically and the fore femora are dark. As far as I know, there are only a few males Fannia with yellow abdomen and all femora yellow (F. ornata, F. posticata). They are different. In my opinion, given the size and the visible characters, this is either Piezura pardalina or Euryomma peregrinum, that I don't know.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
