Dear Dipterists,

I am having a problem with some flies exhibiting some acalypterate traits but calypterate traits also. Is there any order of importance to calypterate traits such as 1) thoracic suture complete. 2) cleft in second antennal segment. In Unwins key to families he points out that a schizophora with hairs in the apical fifth of the hing tibia is likely to be an acalypterate.

The main problem I am having is in regards to what looks like a black muscid that has its dorsal thoracic suture incomplete though it has the normal muscid looking antennae and characteristic wing venation.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
