Appendage at Ornithomyia

The third photo in the first row shows a part of an Ornithomyia avicularia. What is the brownish appendage on the right side of the abdomen? Does somebody know, what it is? Is it a parasite?

I think it is the hind femur, with the remainder of the leg broken off...

This photo is a detail of the next one. You can see there the whole insect with all its six complete legs, and this unknown appendage in addition.

Okay, I see that now. Unfortunately, all images from bioimages have been taken off-line for the time being and there is no way we can see a larger sized image. What you sometimes see in swept specimens is that pieces of herbage stick to the body. Without larger image I think it will be impossible to say.
