Found this large spider as it ran across my bare feet as I was sitting having a quiet smoke in the kitchen the other night. The only one on my Checklist that I think it might be is a Giant House Spider Tegenaria gigantea Male. Am I right. For scale..the coin is 25mm across. Tegenaria gigantea was found to be a synonym of Tegenaria duellica (1875?). The palpal detail is not quite at the right angle to confirm 100% but does compare favourably with Tegenaria duellica. Spider990 Edited by Spider990 on 02-11-2009 00:16 |

Thanks Spider990, I'd forgotten about this guy...thanks for updating me on the name change, I think both names are still being used. Gigantea seems a better/more descriptive title. Regards Roger |
