NO.

Are you sure it is common ?
It looks like Estheria (bohemani).

Unlikely to be bohemani in London but possibly cristata? I'd like to see more angles ... or a specimen Grin

He Jaakko, the topcel is petiolated ! Have a close look !
Moreover, the vertex is rather broad.
It really is Estheria, and Chris is right, it is cristata

Theo is again right... I haven't seen this species before! It should be about the same size as ferruginea, scary if I've ignored this one on the field!

I've seen a few in my area but they are surprisingly anonymous-looking until you get a close look at the head and see their bristles ... then they become easy Grin

Well, they have rather long legs, like most Dexiinae, so you will pick them out no doubt, Jaakko

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
