Since the last few spp. turned out to be ones new to me (though I thought I'd probably already seen them) I'll try a couple more. Thelaira nigripes, or something else entirely? 12/7/2009; Devon, England. Thanks Tim tim worfolk attached the following image: [112.66Kb] Edited by tim worfolk on 14-07-2009 16:47 |

Looks like T. nigripes to me too ... those big eyes and general habitus with long, gangly legs screams "Thelaira", while the 1-2 ad bristles on the mid tibia point to nigripes I saw several last weekend on local nature reserves. Here's one I prepared earlier: ChrisR attached the following image: [76.24Kb] Edited by ChrisR on 14-07-2009 11:11 Manager of the UK Species Inventory in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity at the Natural History Museum, London. |

only Thelaira and Halidaya have hemispherical heads in Tachinidae, I think...

Thelaira nigripes would be my suggestion as well. I've understood that Thelaira nigrina would be a valid species (now a synonym of nigripes). Does anybody know more about this? Jaakko |
