new-born dragonfly from Albania - Cordulegaster bidentata

It is a female in the Cordulegaster genus (Cordulegastridae family). The long ovipositor reaching beyond the abdomen is unique to this family - at least in Europe. The species is probably C. bidentata, based on the yellow abdominal markings (especially on the side of the first abdominal segment). C. heros is the other species from the genus known to occur in Albania. Roy. |
