Moscow region, 10 june, 8mm.
Key leads me to Phaonia variegata, but fly looks another one.

Very closely resembles my certainly correct P. variegata and if it keys to variegata why isn't it?. What do you see that I don't? What are you comparing it with? Very wise not to rely on the key to give the correct answer (see glossary Identification keys Use of Keys) but this time I think it hasPfft. Robert

Like Robert I wondered why you thought it wasn't P subventa - haven't we established before that it's had a name change? I went to my specimens and photos too and still thought it was P subventa. Didn't like to say anything until someone else did though.
