Is this a fly pupa? I found it under bark. It was very small, possibly about 2 mm.

West Virginia forest, USA, 20 March 2009.

It is a fly puparium - the bright colour suggests it's formed recently - in a few days it will have darkened up. Can't tell which family, though - too many possibilities!

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
