Hi,
I started processing my insect photos of the Baltic Island of Usedom in last August. In the wood I met this nice mosquito. Is it identifiable?
Thanks, Sundew

Looks like Aedes (Finlaya) geniculatus.

Fine! Is the name certain enough for the gallery? The Culicidae are a bit underrepresented, so I would like to submit a pic.

I think it's certain enough in that this is (almost) certainly Finlaya, and geniculatus is the only species known to occur in the Baltic. Put it up anyway - the great thing about Diptera.info is that soneone will soon say if it's wrong - that's why it's such a good site (self-improving!)Wink

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
