This little one (about 6mm) was also on the beach (Zeebrugge, Belgium, 16-09-2008)?
What could it be ?

I've never seen such a pale Fucellia. The black legs would make it Fucellia fucorum. There isn't a picture in the gallery, but I think fucorum has been shown somewhere on Diptera.info and it is a much darker fly.

I've no suggestions for what this one is, though.

It's not Fucellia, but may be a Delia. In fact it looks like Delia lavata which is found on beaches in northern Europe, but can't be lavata which has yellow legs. It also looks like a Leucophora.

Second thoughts: it it might be Delia albula, also found in sand dunes etc

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
