Hella all,
Can someone help me with the ID of this smallish fly observed on April 2 2008 in Banyuls (Pyrenees orientales, France) ? The wing venation intrigues me....
TIA
Philippe

Yes indeed, I thought it looked a bit like Elomyia...
Thanks

Not Elomyia. In fact I would not even put all my money on Tachinidae and would keep other options (for example Rhinophoridae) open.

My money too was on it being a rhinophorid ... but it looks really odd.

This vein arragement seems peculiar to Rhinophoridae , but not perhaps specific ?

I would be very surprised if this is not... Sarcophagidae.

I know, you tell me, the topcel is stalked.
There is at least 1 Sarc with this feature

Notoecus longestylatus.

So that is my proposition.

Ah , now you're (s)talking !Grin

Thanks for your input. Is there any end to the surprises and tricks that those two-winged critters have in store for us poor entomologists?....
