I think that this picture parhaps shows a female nigra?
Can someone confirm or turn me right?

Looks very convincing. Very long time though, since I saw my first and last one (and I didn't collect it! Sad ).
Why don't you buy the Finnish Syrphidae book?!

My conclusion is that this is nigra. Pale halteres are not clearly visible though, but the bands on the abdomen are pretty convincing to me and the scutellum is clearly black. Could you place this one in the Syrphidae Gallery?

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
