Hi, this is a mayfly found in a forest in N-E Hungary, Bükk NP, near brook, 05 of May. I only have a field guide for Ephemeroptera printed back in 1959, so maybe someone can give a better ID than me I'd go for Siphlonuridae, maybe Ameletus??? I don't have an image of it's wing venation, so it's only a guess.

Dr György Sziráki (Hungarian Natural History Museum) determined it: Ametropus fragilis, Ametropodidae. Couldn't find a single photo of it with google |

I'm afraid that Ametropus fragilis is incorrect. Your photos show a female imago of Metreletus balacanicus. The golden tinged wings are characteristic, in combination with the yellow stripes that go from wing base to head and the orange-brown, uniformly coloured abdomen. A. fragilis is a very rare potamal species, in Hungary mainly restricted to the Tisza at the Ukrainian border, and the river Rába. M. balcanicus on the other hand is a typical species for very small brooks taht dry up in the summer. See this article with a photo of a male attached: https://www.natuurpunt.be/nieuws/goudvleugel-na-60-jaar-teruggevonden-het-walenbos-20180515?fbclid=IwAR0j9OAx8VGItlaOGzYxEcNXNSJAI379DqF0IDhyQ5C_H8Z0j7tFIIaxUDc#.Wvv13jbSHv8.facebook Kind regards, Daan Drukker |
