Alas! If the arista is really plumose, as it looks (but out of focus), this must be Nyctia halterata in... Sarcophagidae ! But rest assured that several Tachinidae (Wagneriini) and Rhinophoridae (Stevenia) can be very similar indeed. All of them have bare or at most short-plumose arista Theo Zeegers |

Arista plumose, but hairs short (only 2-3 times longer than diametr of arista itself). This hairs developed only in base part of arista. In top part of arista there are only few (2-3) hairs. Subscutellum looks Tachinida type (my test). R1 bare, scutellum with 2 pair of long seta. C with strong spine on Sc level.

The arista you describe agrees very well with Nyctia, and does not agree with any black Tachinid I know of. So my guess remains the same, but with slightly more conviction: Nyctia halterata. Theo |
