South Texas.

This seems to be quite a common species in and around coastal prairie areas.

Thanks for any suggestions

Maria

Well, if you have the Manual of Nearctic Diptera at hand, I would suggest to compare it with Neogriphoneura. In that case the anepimeron (or pteropleuron), the sklerite below the wing should have one or maore hairs to it. From the picture it is impossible to tell.

Steve is a member and he has been on the site, well I think about a week ago. You can also leave him a Private Message for the next time he drops in (although email may get him in earlier Wink).

Hello - sorry it took a while for me to reply - I saw this some time ago. In any case, Paul was right on - this is Neogriphoneura, specifically Neogriphoneura sordida.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
