Assisted this little fly out of spiders web with the aid of an earplug which had been discarded by someone coming off one of the Helicopters here at Scatsta Airport. It cleaned itself for a while then flew off without as much as a thank you. Gratitude? Smile.

I'm fairly sure this is Heterocheila buccata (Heterocheilidae)

Cheers Tony
Well that was a real "Twilight Zone" moment. I was looking through my old posts and came on this one, and intended to bump it up with further photo's.
Prepared the photo's....was looking through the Gallery at Heleomyzidae (which I thought this was), clicked on Home Page...and there was my post....up from Page 106 if I remember correctly. STRANGE Shock.
I see there is only 1 multiple photo in the Gallery which was ID'd by a certain T. Irwin, so I can add a few more, including this frontal shot. At least I think its the same kind.
A new species for Shetland Smile.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
