Could this be an ascomycete fungus of the order Laboulbeniales? See http://www.dipter...icle_id=15. Jan Willem van Zuijlen |

These are Laboulbeniales, but I don't recall ever have seen so much on one individual.

Thank you Jan and Tony. Today I saw another male F. canicularis with these fungi. Does anyone know if someone is interested in seeing these? |

W. Rossi ( vrossi@univaq.it ) or Jan Maca ( jan.maca@nature.cz ) might be interested to see these (and should be able to name them for you).

Hoi Rui, I think Dr. Rossi is actually the one who identifies the Laboulbeniales. Jan Willem van Zuijlen |

This Laboulbeniales was identified by Dr. Walter Rossi as Stigmatomyces ceratophorus, a new species to Portugal. Dr. Rossi says he is interested in receiving specimens, so if anyone finds infected specimens try to send them to him. Below is a photo by Dr. Rossi of this species: |

Great picture, distinctive characters too! Rui Andrade wrote:
